Privacy
This site is built to need very little from you. Here is all of it.
Reading the site
No account, no cookies, no advertising, no trackers that follow you elsewhere. We count page views with Plausible, which records that a page was viewed (and how many alert signups there were, never whose) without cookies and without storing anything that identifies you. The pages are served by GitHub Pages and the map tiles by OpenStreetMap; like any web server, each sees the internet address a request comes from.
Email alerts
If you sign up for an alert we keep your email address, which establishments you chose to follow (or that you chose the site-wide list), and when you signed up and confirmed. The form sends these straight to Buttondown, the service that holds the list and sends the email. It also records the internet address the signup came from, the country that implies, that the form was on this site, and whether each email was delivered or bounced, which it uses to keep abusive signups off the list; we can see those. All of it is used for one thing: sending the alerts you asked for.
- The list is held for us by Buttondown, which sends the email. It is not sold, shared, rented or published, and nobody else may write to it. No food establishment can buy access to it, for the same reason none may sponsor this site.
- We do not track whether you open an alert, and nothing records what you, as a person, click. The links in an alert carry a short tag naming the email they came from, not you, so that our page counter can show how many visits each alert brought in total.
- Every alert has a link that unsubscribes you from everything at once, and a link to a page where you can stop one place and keep the others. To be removed from the list altogether, write to hello@greenwichdining.com from that address and we will delete your entry. The mailing service may keep a suppressed record of the address so that it cannot be added again by mistake.
- The signup form remembers your address in your own browser, so following a second place does not mean typing it again. It is kept on your device only, is filled in only when you open the form, and goes when you clear this site's data.
Writing to us
Messages sent through the forms on the contact and corrections pages are delivered to us by Formspree, and reach us as email. Your address is optional there. Email is not anonymous; the contact page says what to do if that matters to you.
The records themselves
The inspection records are public documents about businesses, released by the Town of Greenwich under the Connecticut Freedom of Information Act. We do not publish the scanned forms, because they carry the names and phone numbers of people who were on the premises.
